What does Domowit mean?
1.
Do more with it: As in, I got an idea but I have no clue on how to make it a reality. Can you help me do more with it?
2.
Don't monkey with it: This is the antithesis of "do more with it." This definition is in reference to aesthetics. Keep it simple, clean and concise, and if it ain't broke don't break it. It's kinda Zen and kinda hill-billy.
Johnathan Crawford is the founder of Domowit. He has his degree in Music Performance from the University of Iowa. In 2000 he moved to Chicago with aspirations of being either Keith Moon or a bike messenger. Neither of those panned out but he was fortunate enough to get a job at an advertising agency called BBDS. After five years he moved up the ranks to head production designer. During that time he soaked up any and everything about graphic design and production that he could. Always curious about different design techniques, movements and ideas. After five years of working for the man he decided to set out on his own. From his home studio he started getting a few clients that could sustain him from week to week all while allowing him to play music in his free time. In 2006 he joined Mike Reed at the
Pitchfork Music Festival office space. In 2008 they moved and Michael Renaud joined the group. In 2009 Adam Penly joined the group. In early 2011 Adam, Mike and Johnathan moved to a new space, now called
Rational Park. Which is a 3000 sqft, multidisciplinary creative co-op in Chicago's Humbolt Park.
